Hours Of Service
1 Day Course
Hours of Service (HOS) regulations in Manitoba's trucking industry are designed to ensure driver safety by limiting driving and on-duty hours while mandating rest periods. These rules prevent driver fatigue, reducing the risk of accidents. Compliance with HOS regulations is crucial for maintaining safety standards on the road.

Driving
Drivers are limited to a maximum of 13 hours of driving in a day. This restriction helps prevent fatigue and ensures that drivers remain alert and safe on the road.

On-Duty
Drivers can be on duty for no more than 14 hours in a day, which includes both driving and any other work-related activities. This limit ensures that drivers have enough time for rest and personal activities.

Off-Duty
Drivers must take at least 10 hours off duty each day. This off-duty time must include at least 8 consecutive hours in a single block and at least 2 additional hours that can be taken in increments of 30 minutes or more.

Cycle
Drivers can choose between two duty cycles: Cycle 1 (70 hours on duty in 7 days) or Cycle 2 (120 hours on duty in 14 days). They must take at least 24 consecutive hours off duty before switching cycles.

Work-Shift
Drivers cannot drive after being on duty for 16 hours following an 8-hour off-duty period. This regulation ensures that drivers do not work excessively long shifts without adequate rest, maintaining their alertness and safety.

Rest
After reaching the maximum on-duty hours in a cycle, drivers must take a minimum of 36 consecutive hours off duty (Cycle 1) or 72 consecutive hours off duty (Cycle 2). These extended rest periods ensure drivers are well-rested before starting a new cycle.
